Description

Flames in the wavelength range of 760–1100 nanometers can be detected by the Flame Sensor Module. At around 0.8 metres, little flames, such as a lighter flame, can be seen. The sensor is especially sensitive to the flame spectrum, with a detection angle of about 60 degrees.

The sensitivity level is changed via a comparator, an on-board LM393 op-amp. The blue potentiometer on the sensor allows for sensitivity adjustment. It features both digital and analogue outputs.

The purpose of this Flame Sensor Module is to identify sources of light with wavelengths between 760 and 1100 nm, such as fire or flame. Its foundation is the YG1006 sensor, an NPN silicon phototransistor with high speed and sensitivity. The sensor is sensitive to infrared radiation because of its black epoxy.

When employed as a robot’s eyes to locate the source of the fire, the sensor can be a very useful addition to a firefighting robot. The D0 pin dips low and the Signal LED illuminates when the sensor detects flame.

The module has two outputs: digital, which enables temperature thresholds to be set via a potentiometer, and analogue, which provides a voltage output signal on thermal resistance in real time.
