Description

If you’re looking for a way to get an extremely precise airspeed measurement from your PIXHAWK, go no further than the Pixhawk Digital Airspeed Sensor, which comes with its own pitot tube. The Pixhawk PX4 autopilot system must be used in conjunction with this MS 4525DO Air Speed Sensor and Pitot Tube Set.

This device can record incredibly accurate airspeed data because of its low offset, high resolution digital pressure sensor. Unlike prior analogue airspeed systems, this sensor is immune to deviations induced by ratio-metric outputs and noise from lengthy connections.

Up to 100 m/s (223 mph/360 km/h) can be measured using the Measurement Specialities 4525DO sensor employing a 0.84 Pa and 14 bits of data provided by a 24 bit delta-sigma ADC. In order to calculate the correct airspeed from the indicated airspeed using the MS5611 static pressure sensor on the Pixhawk PX4, this airspeed sensor also includes an integrated temperature sensor.

The Pixhawk Airspeed Sensor Kit has a Measurement Specialties 4525DO sensor that measures pressure at 1 psi, or approximately up to 100 m/s, 360 km/h, or 223 mp/h. This allows for a resolution of 0.84 Pa and data delivery at 14 bits from a 24 bit delta-sigma ADC.

In order to calculate the true airspeed from the indicated airspeed utilising the MS5611 static pressure sensor on the Pixhawk, it also detects temperature. Compared to earlier analogue sensor configurations, it is significantly closer to the air temperature since it is not affected by the heat of neighbouring processing components. Suitable for all Pixhawk and PX4 autopilot generation boards, this kit has mounting holes that are M3/6-32 sizes.

This unit is only useful when using the fixed-wing code in the Pixhawk, thus if you are flying many copters, you do not need it.
