Description

A precise timing circuit that may provide precise oscillation or time delays is the NE 555 P timer IC. A single external resistor and capacitor network controls the timed interval in the time-delay or monostable mode of operation. With two external resistors and one external capacitor, the frequency and duty cycle can be individually adjusted in the astable mode of operation.

Normally, the trigger level is one-third and the threshold level is two-thirds of VCC. The control voltage terminal can be used to change these levels. The flip-flop is configured and the output rises when the trigger input drops below the trigger level. The flip-flop is reset and the output is low if both the trigger input and the threshold input are over their respective levels.
