Description

A mid-drive BLDC (Brushless Direct Current) motor rated at 48V and 1000W would be a robust choice for an e-rickshaw, providing sufficient power and torque for efficient operation. BLDC motors are known for their high efficiency, reliability, and low maintenance requirements, making them ideal for electric vehicle applications like e-rickshaws.

When selecting a mid-drive BLDC motor for your e-rickshaw, consider factors such as:

  1. Power Rating: A 1000W motor should provide ample power for typical e-rickshaw usage, including carrying passengers and cargo.
  2. Voltage: Ensure that the motor’s voltage rating matches your battery system’s voltage. In this case, a 48V motor would require a 48V battery pack.
  3. Torque: Look for a motor with sufficient torque to handle the weight of the e-rickshaw and its payload, especially when starting from a stop or climbing hills.
  4. Compatibility: Ensure that the motor is compatible with your e-rickshaw’s frame and drivetrain system.
  5. Reliability and Durability: Choose a motor from a reputable manufacturer known for producing reliable and durable products.
  6. Controller Compatibility: Make sure the motor is compatible with the appropriate motor controller for optimal performance and efficiency.
  7. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that the motor complies with any relevant regulations or standards for e-rickshaws in your region.

When installing the motor, it’s essential to follow the manufacturer’s instructions and consider safety precautions to ensure proper operation and longevity of the system.

What is a mid-drive motor?

Mid-drive motors are directly attached to the drivetrain and your pedaling inputs. In most cases, the drivetrain of a chain-drive electric bike is comprised of a conventional chain, chainrings, and tape, which cooperate to drive the rear wheel and move you forward.

Mid-drive motors are known for higher performance and torque when compared to a similarly powered traditional hub motor. One key motivation behind why would that be the chain drive motor drives the crank, instead of the wheel itself, multiplying its power and allowing it to better take advantage of the bike’s existing gears.

The single biggest benefit that mid-motors have over hub motors is their gear ratio. They permit the rider to drive the back tire through something very similar chain and gear set as the pedals, which means that low stuff can be chosen for driving up steep hills or accelerating from a stop with massive torque. A mid-drive motor in low gear can climb steeper hills than a hub motor of similar power and can climb hills for longer than a hub motor, which could overheat on long steep hill climbs.
