Description

Today, a new official Raspberry Pi expansion board has been introduced: the Raspberry Pi Build HAT. This HAT fits any Raspberry Pi with a 40-pin GPIO header and allows you to control up to four LEGO motors and sensors from the LEGO Portfolio, offering a flexible system with unlimited possibilities. With it, you can build robust, intelligent machines that combine Raspberry Pi computing power with LEGO components. The angular motors come in various sizes and include integrated encoders that can be queried to determine their position.

The Build HAT connects to LEGO devices using an LPF2 connector and features an onboard RP2040 microcontroller that handles the low-level control of the Technic devices. An external power supply is required to provide power. Developers can use Python to query sensors and run motors, and a Python library is available to facilitate software development for controlling the connected LEGO parts.

Additionally, the kit includes a hub that supports connecting six devices and can also store and run Python programs, making programming LEGO components with Python a versatile and powerful feature.
