The latest generation of low-cost 360 degrees 2D laser scanner (LIDAR) is the RP LIDAR A2M12 360 degrees Laser Range Finder-12 Metre Range. It has a high rotation speed and can capture up to 16000 laser ranging samples per second. Furthermore, because it is outfitted with SLAMTEC’s proprietary OPTMAG technology, it surpasses the lifespan restriction of conventional LIDAR systems to function steadily and long-term.
The improved version of the 2D laser range scanner (LIDAR) is called RPLIDAR A2M12. Within a 12-meter range, the device is capable of performing a 2D 360-degree scan. Object/environment modelling, localization, and mapping can all be done with the produced 2D point cloud data. The RPLIDAR A2 typically scans at a frequency of 10 Hz (600 rpm). The resolution in this case will be 0.225°. Additionally, customers can easily modify the actual scanning frequency within the 5–15 Hz range to suit their needs.
The RPLIDAR A2 performs exceptionally well in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings without direct sunlight exposure because it uses the low-cost laser triangulation measurement method created by SLAMTEC. Meanwhile, each RPLIDAR A2 has undergone rigorous testing to guarantee that the laser output power satisfies FDA Class I requirements before it leaves the manufacturer.
System Connection:
The range scanner core and the mechanical component that powers it at a rapid speed are the two main components of the RPLIDAR A2. The scanner will revolve and scan in a clockwise direction when operating regularly. Additionally, users can regulate the start, stop, and rotation speed of the rotating motor using PWM and obtain the range scan data using the RPLIDAR’s communication interface.
The RPLIDAR A2 uses high-speed vision collection and processing technology created by SLAMTEC and is based on the laser triangulation ranging principle. Over 16000 ranges are made in a second by the system.
Every time an object has to be detected, the RPLIDAR sends a modulated infrared laser signal, which is subsequently reflected by the target. The DSP incorporated in RPLIDAR begins processing the sample data after the returning signal is sampled by the vision acquisition system. It then outputs the distance and angle values between the object and RPLIDAR via the communication interface. The range scanner core will rotate clockwise when powered by the motor system, conducting a 360-degree scan of the surrounding area.
The range scanner core and the motor system of the RPLIDAR A2 are powered by separate 5V DC sources. Also, the XH2.54-5P male socket is used by the standard RPLIDAR A2. The following figure displays the detailed specification of the interface:
Features:
The core of RPLIDAR A2 runs clockwise to perform a 360-degree omnidirectional laser range scanning for its surrounding environment and then generates an outline map for the environment.
