You can utilise the GY-53 VL53L0X Laser ToF Flight Time Ranging Sensor Module for simple device integration and simple gesture detection applications. Any application requiring a 2.8 to 5V supply can utilise the VL53L0X satellite board because of its 2.8V regulator and level shifters.
There is no other Time of Flight distance sensor like the VL53L0X! The sensor has a corresponding sensor and a minuscule, undetectable laser source inside. The “time of flight,” or how long it took for the light to return to the sensor, is something that the VL53L0X can measure. It works well for measuring the distance only to the surface directly in front of it since it employs a very narrow light source.
In contrast to sonars, which reflect ultrasonic waves, the senses have a relatively narrow “cone.” The VL53L0x is significantly more accurate than IR distance sensors, which attempt to detect the quantity of light bounced. It also doesn’t have linearity issues or “double imaging,” which causes you to be unable to distinguish if an object is very far away or very close.
The VL53L0X module’s supporting PCB piece is perforated to allow developers to remove the tiny PCB and utilise flying leads to use it in a 2.8V supply application. Because of its compact form factor, this enables integration into development and evaluation devices easy.
The module is made to run on little electricity. Ranging measurements can be carried out automatically at intervals that the user specifies. To reduce host operations, several thresholds and interrupt techniques are offered. To read the data code, use a serial port and PWM: Arduino, STM32, and 51 MCU.
It should be noted that while outside light will affect the infrared’s maximum measurement range, it will not affect the precision of the measurement because of this. High precision mode, automated output, and serial baud rate of 9600 are the default settings. Please take off the sensor film before using.
The VL53L0X is the latest product based on ST’s patented FlightSense™ technology. This is a ground-breaking technology allowing absolute distance to be measured independent of target reflectance. Instead of estimating the distance by measuring the amount of light reflected back from the object (which is significantly influenced by color and surface), the VL53L0X precisely measures the time the light takes to travel to the nearest object and reflect back to the sensor (Time-of-Flight). Combining an IR emitter and a range sensor, the VL53L0X is easy to integrate and saves OEMs long and costly optical and mechanical design optimizations.
Note:
A liner is included with the VL53L0X to stop any foreign objects from getting inside the module holes while it is being assembled. It needs to be taken out before module calibration and as soon as feasible during final assembly.
