After nearly 7 years of anticipation, Raspberry Pi has launched the Camera Module 3 series, the successor to the popular Camera Module 2 series first introduced in April 2016. This new addition to the Raspberry Pi camera lineup replaces the widely successful Camera Module 2.

The all-new Raspberry Pi Camera Module 3, available in both Standard and Wide versions, is designed for Raspberry Pi computers. It features autofocus, a 12-megapixel Sony IMX708 sensor, and is fully supported by Raspberry Pi’s Picamera2 Python library. The Camera Module 3 delivers superior image quality and precise control for a variety of applications.

The Raspberry Pi Camera Module 3 NoIR introduces several upgrades over its predecessor. It’s available with either a standard 76° field of view or a wide-angle 120° lens, and comes in both regular and infrared-sensitive (NoIR) versions.

The standard variant is ideal for capturing images in normal lighting. On the other hand, the NoIR variant lacks an infrared filter, making it perfect for capturing images in darkness when paired with an infrared light source.
