Description

A general-purpose chassis mounting mains transformer, the 24V-0V-24V 1Amp Step-Down Transformer. The transformer’s secondary winding is non-center tapped and its main winding is 230V. The transformer features approximately 100 mm long flying coloured insulated connecting leads. The transformer reduces AC 230V to AC 24V by acting as a step-down transformer.

The Transformer produces 0V and 24V outputs. The construction of the transformer is described below, including information on the solid core and winding.

An electrical transformer is a static device that transfers energy between its winding circuits by inductive coupling. A changing magnetic flux in the transformer’s core and, consequently, a changing magnetic flux across the secondary winding are caused by variations in the primary winding’s current. The secondary winding experiences a fluctuating electromotive force (E.M.F.) or voltage as a result of this changing magnetic flux. The silicon steel cores of the transformer have a high permeability. Due to the steel’s permeability, which is many times greater than that of empty space and the core, the magnetising current is much reduced, and the flux is contained to a path that closely matches the winding.
