An 8 pin DIP package housing a boost/buck/inverting switching regulator is the MC34063AP. It is a simple regulator that has all the essential circuitry required to construct basic DC to DC converters. The internal temperature compensated reference, comparator, oscillator, PWM controller with active current limiting, driver, and high current output switch are the main components of the MC34063AP regulator. With this device, you can build converters in boost, buck, and inverting topologies with few extra components.
