Straight out of the box, the Sabertooth empowers two DC brushed motors with up to 60A each, with peak currents reaching an impressive 120A per channel for brief periods. Equipped with robust overcurrent and thermal protection mechanisms, users can rest assured, knowing that accidental stalls or the connection of oversized motors won’t compromise the driver’s integrity.

With compatibility across analog voltage, radio control, serial, and packetized serial inputs, the Sabertooth offers unparalleled control flexibility, enabling the creation of diverse robotic projects with varying complexities. Its independent and speed+direction operating modes make it particularly adept for differential drive (tank style) robots and more.

Setting the operating mode is a breeze thanks to the onboard DIP switches, eliminating the hassle of jumper configurations. Featuring screw terminal connectors, the Sabertooth streamlines assembly, allowing users to build robots without the need for soldering.

As a pioneer in synchronous regenerative motor drivers, the Sabertooth ensures efficient battery usage by recharging batteries whenever the robot decelerates or reverses. This feature, coupled with the ability to execute lightning-fast stops and reverses, gives robots a competitive edge in agility and responsiveness.

Moreover, the Sabertooth integrates a built-in 5V 1A Switch-mode BEC, providing power for receivers or microcontrollers, along with support for 3-4 standard analog servos. Its lithium cutoff mode ensures safe operation with lithium ion and lithium polymer battery packs, known for their high energy density. Operating at ultrasonic speeds (24kHz), the Sabertooth operates silently, enhancing user experience.

With 0.8 milliohm MOSFETs in its bridge, the Sabertooth 2X60 surpasses conventional rating schemes, offering capabilities equivalent to a dual 300A motor driver by competitor standards.

For optimal performance and safety, it’s strongly advised to avoid using cheap AC adapters with these motor drivers and instead opt for a battery or include a battery in parallel with a DC supply.
